Better Sleep • Better Recovery • Better Outcomes

Every day, physical therapists work to reduce pain, restore movement, and help patients achieve meaningful recovery. Yet one of the most powerful influences on healing is often overlooked—sleep. Quality sleep plays a vital role in tissue repair, pain modulation, learning, recovery, and overall health. When sleep is compromised, rehabilitation outcomes can suffer despite excellent clinical care.

Sleep Mastery, developed by Dr. Doug Cary, equips rehabilitation professionals with the knowledge and practical tools to recognize sleep-related barriers to recovery and confidently integrate evidence-based sleep strategies into everyday practice. If you're looking to enhance patient outcomes beyond exercise and manual therapy, this course will change the way you think about recovery.

Who is this course for?

Whether you're a new graduate or an experienced clinician, Sleep Mastery is designed for healthcare professionals who want to better understand one of the most influential—and often overlooked—factors affecting recovery. If you've ever wondered why some patients struggle to progress despite well-designed rehabilitation programs, this course will provide practical, evidence-based insights you can apply immediately.

Hi, I'm Dr Doug Cary (PhD)

Specialist Physiotherapist, Sleep Researcher, & Clinical Director at AAP Education

I spent the first half of my 35-year physiotherapy career completely blind to sleep. It was a massive mistake.

Like most clinicians, I focused entirely on exercises, advice, and hands-on treatments. Then, a patient changed everything. They told me their severe neck pain triggered the exact moment they turned their head in the morning—no load, slow movement, just intense pain. My traditional skillset couldn't explain why, and I had nothing to offer them.

Driven to find answers, I spent the next 9 years in deep research, earning both a Master’s and a PhD examining the direct links between sleep postures, waking spinal symptoms, and overall sleep quality.

As I uncovered the science, I tested and distilled these findings in my own clinic. Today, I’ve packaged that exact roadmap into a step-by-step clinical system: Sleep Mastery.
